Yardley, Pa. — McCann Associates, a leader in the deployment of high-stakes testing and certification assessments for professional credentialing and educational purposes, reports a record number of potential healthcare interpreters successfully taking and  passing the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters’ (CCHI)Certified Healthcare Interpreter (CHI) and Associate Healthcare Interpreter (AHI) credentialing examinations.

CCHI’s Certified Healthcare Interpreter examination is a computer-based, interactive, oral exam delivered by McCann Associates in the US and Canada.  It is unique in the industry in that it delivers audible content to the test candidates, and collects their spoken responses which are automatically and randomly delivered to trained raters for adjudication and comments.  McCann is the only company currently offering this type of technology.

The CHI exam is divided into 3 sections: Consecutive translation (translating paragraphs or complete thoughts), Simultaneous translation (translating sentence by sentence in a conversational mode), and Sight translation. The tests, which are given 4 times per year to approximately 200 individuals per quarter, are currently available in Spanish, Mandarin and Arabic. Russian and Vietnamese versions are due to be released shortly.

McCann has also successfully created and delivered the AHI practice examination(available at www.vantageonlinestore.com) which consists of 100 multiple-choice questions divided across a number of carefully selected domains:  Managing an Interpreting Encounter, Healthcare Terminology, Interacting with Other Healthcare Professionals, Preparing for an Interpreting Encounter, and Cultural Responsiveness. It provides a score and a diagnostic summary report that precisely identifies areas of need for future study. Correct answers and explanations are part of the report.
